AGE 6-9
Youth off season sport training should be fun. From ages 6 to
9 there is not a need for consistency off-season training . Playing with
friends and staying active is great training. Off season training should be
games like dodge ball, water games and soccer that develop motor skills.
AGE 10-12
From ages 10 - 12 it is time to start training with
many sport specific drills. Games and sport specific drills are a great
way to stay sharp and improve. Training should be focused on developing
coordination, balance, agility, speed and sports specific skills.
AGE 13-15
Training and
weightlifting becomes more serious. Strength training has to be
done under supervision to make sure it is done with proper
technique. This is when growing is rapid and lifting should be
done with very light weights. Adding muscle slowly will benefit
your speed and endurance. Personally, I think coordination
is the most important skill to develop.
AGE 16-18
At 16-18 you can start weight training
seriously. That is when you stat building the solid base for
strength. Many sports specific drills should be included in off
season training to keep improving on your speed, balance,
hand-eye coordination, endurance and flexibility.
AGE 16-18
From 18 and up training is
done on pro level. This is when you can see the difference between those who
have already been training. Every sport and position has their own specific
demands and that should always be considered in on and off season training.
